Characteristics of a Good Handwriting

Today we shall discuss the characteristics of a good handwriting.  Some have a bad handwriting which they feel awkward to write and they hesitate to write. But I have good news for them. They can practice daily so that their handwriting would be more beautiful as their faces. The following are assumed to be as the characteristics of a good handwriting.


1.       Legibility:


            The five aspects of cursive writing-letter formation, spacing , alignment, regularity or slant and quality of stroke should be paid attention to bring about legibility in the handwriting.



 2.      Simplicity :


The writing of the writers should be simple and neat. Some prefer complex words, jargons and cliches to show their vocabulary. That’s not necessary at all. Simplicity in writing will be more effective.


        3.    Uniformity:


The letters in each word should be uniform in size. Nonuniform words must be neglected and avoided. Uniformed words look neat and it has a good presentation.


          4.      Distinctiveness:

Any letter should not resemble any other letter in shape or form while writing. When we tend to write in haste we don’t look these issues. Some don’t put a dash in ‘t’ and it looks like ‘l’. These mistakes have to be avoided. 


         5.      Spacing:


There should be proper spacing between the letters in a word, the words in a line and lines in a paragraph. Some leave more space between the words and it looks odd and different. So those minute errors have to notified.


            6.      Capitalization and Punctuation:


Capital letters should be used at appropriate places, similarly, punctuation marks should also be used carefully while writing. Now look at the following sentences and find the difference.
Ex:  My wife, who is in Mysore is coming today.
        My wife who is in Mysore, is coming today.


               7.      Speed:

The writing should be written legibly at the same time at a reasonable speed.
